Author Guidelines

Instructions for Authors

The Ukrainian Geographic Journal (UGJ) accepts only original, unpublished scientific articles that address current issues in the fields of physical and human geography, cartography, geoinformatics, local studies, and geographic education. Articles that do not correspond to the Journal’s scope or fail to follow the Instructions for Authors (see website: ukrgeojournal.org.ua (ukrgeojournal.org.ua in Bing)) will be rejected by the Editorial Board.

Languages

Manuscripts may be submitted in Ukrainian or English. Authors from Ukraine who submit manuscripts in English must also provide a Ukrainian translation of the manuscript.

Length

  • Research articles: up to 14 pages (including abstract, tables, and illustrations).
  • Review articles: 6–7 pages.
  • Information notes and book reviews: 3–4 pages.
    Formatting: font size 12, line spacing 1.5.

Structure of the Manuscript

Each manuscript must include:

  • UDC index.
  • Author(s) full name(s) in Ukrainian and transliterated into English.
  • Title of the article.
  • Abstract and keywords in Ukrainian and English (for research articles).
  • Main text of the article.
  • References.
  • Author’s institutional affiliation (in the original language and translated into English).

The text should be organized into the following sections:

  • Relevance of the research topic.
  • State of the art and key publications.
  • Research aim.
  • Research methods.
  • Main results and discussion (subsections may be used).
  • Conclusions.
  • Novelty of the research.

Abstracts

  • Ukrainian abstract: up to 800 characters.
  • English abstract: up to 1800 characters.
    Abstracts must reflect the article’s structure (aim, methods, results, novelty).

References

References must be numbered in the order they appear in the text.

  • Monographs: authors’ surnames and initials, full title, year, total pages.
  • Journal articles: authors’ surnames and initials, full title, journal name, year, pages, DOI (if available).

For sources not in Latin script, an English translation of the reference must be provided, with authors’ names transliterated.

In-text citations should be indicated in square brackets according to the reference list number.

Tables and Illustrations

Tables, maps, and figures must be numbered and cited in the text.
All graphics must be computer-generated in black-and-white format, submitted separately as electronic files. Accepted formats: PDF, EPS (preferred for vector graphics), TIFF, BMP, JPEG (for photographs), with resolution not less than 350 dpi.
Color figures are accepted only if agreed with the Editorial Office in advance

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
